Dear friends, given the current situation with trade and tariffs, I am sure many of you are wondering what would happen if you order from our shop in Canada. The situation is evolving and complex but let me give you the quick facts for the next few days and weeks.

IMPORTANT UPDATE AS OF MAY 2ND

As of May 2nd, 2025 the so-called De Minimis rule allowing Americans to order goods of up to $800 in value, duty free, no longer applies for goods made in China, which means that these goods are subject to tariffs of up to 30%. Since many of the smaller items and some larger items we carry are made in China, these goods would be subject to very high duties.

The De Minimis rule allowing Americans to order goods of up to $800 in value, duty free, for goods from countries other than China is still in place.

We therefore urge you to contact us before ordering to make sure that you will not end up being charged onerous rates if what your ordered is made in China. Please call 1 (514) 927-7713 or drop us an email at info@windforce.ca

For goods above $800, new tariffs rate apply which typically are about 10% of the price except for goods coming from China which have much higher tariff rates. Also, shipments valued at over US$800 from all countries must now be officially declared in the USA. The previous threshold was US$2,500. Until then, shipments valued between US$800 and US$2,500 could be cleared by means of an unofficial declaration, a simplified and accelerated procedure. Now, for goods above $800, all official declarations must include the tax reference number (TIN) of the final recipient (which may be a social security number [SSN] or an employer identification number [EIN]), as well as supporting documentation where necessary. These requirements are not new but only applied to shipments about US $2500 before. They now apply to shipments above $800.
