Leeward side: deep, power curve- draft.

THE 'POWER SIDE'

The deepest part of the profile, located on the leeward side. Measured as depth (how “fat” the sail is) and position (how far forward or back it sits). Draft generates the power/lift of the sail. The SPY carries a fuller, more driving profile, built to deliver stability across any condition. Its softer Dacron luff panel feeds a steady pull into your hands, giving you early planing and smooth acceleration without demanding effort. The profile stays deeper below the boom, transferring balanced power into the board and fin, while higher up it tapers into a lighter, more neutral feel for effortless handling in transitions and maneuvers. The result is confidence: easy lift onto the plane, constant speed through gusts, and a sail that stays locked but never heavy. It helps to drive with speed to go hit the lips. Windward side: flatter, low-pressure side.

THE 'FAST SIDE'

The overall aerodynamic shape of the sail, seen in cross-section. It includes the windward side (flatter) and the leeward side (curved). When we say “the sail profile”, we mean the general curve the sailcloth and battens create.

 

The SPY keeps a rounder, more forgiving draft than a pure wave sail, locking steady power into the board and rider. The drive sits low and centered, feeding directly into both arms and the harness, giving you balance and comfort without effort.
