A Message to Our American Customers
Update as of April 18, 2025
Dear friends, given the current situation with trade and tariffs, I am sure many of you are wondering what would happen if you order from our shop in Canada. The situation is evolving and complex but let me give you the quick facts for the next few days and weeks.
If you order goods under $800 before May 2nd 2025, the so-called De Minimis rule is still in place for all goods no matter where they are made. Therefore no duties or tarrifs are applied to these goods.
As of May 2nd the rule is abolished for goods coming from China or Hong Kong. It is still not clear if this applies to Chinese made goods coming from a third country like Canada and we will let you know. As you can imagine, many of the smaller items like mast extensions, mast bases, board bags, and so on are made in China.
For goods above $800, new tariffs rate apply which typically are about 10% of the price except for goods coming from China which have much higher tariff rates. Also, shipments valued at over US$800 from all countries must now be officially declared in the USA. The previous threshold was US$2,500. Until then, shipments valued between US$800 and US$2,500 could be cleared by means of an unofficial declaration, a simplified and accelerated procedure. Now, for goods above $800, all official declarations must include the tax reference number (TIN) of the final recipient (which may be a social security number [SSN] or an employer identification number [EIN]), as well as supporting documentation where necessary. These requirements are not new but only applied to shipments about US $2500 before. They now apply to shipments above $800.
We urge you to contact us for items that are more than $800 USD in value. You can write to me at Vincent@windforce.ca or call 1 (514) 927-7713. At this point we do not know how the situation will evolve and will keep posting here to keep you informed.
We are obviously concerned about this situation and hope for a quick resolution so you can have access to the full range of fantastic gear we have in store. Thank you for understanding, and for being loyal customers.
